Vehicles play a large role in both Mafia games and are noted for having damage physics on nearly all vehicles. While damage is depicted on most cars accurately, smaller and weaker vehicles will stand less abuse before breaking down (and eventually exploding) than larger, armored vehicles. This is a more realistic aspect of both Mafia games; compared other games in the same genre, with the ability to puncture the fuel tank, overheat the engine, and break transmission gears again increasing the realism of this game mechanic. Many exterior components (such as windows, tires, headlights, and bumpers) can be removed from most vehicles with physical means such as crashing, hitting with blunt melee weapons such as fists, Baseball Bats, as well as firing bullets at them. Also, unlike many other similar games, you have to fill up on gasoline when the car runs low.
