  • We need to settle on a format for the opening line of pages that are added by the various DLCs. Right now, some are using the "XXXX is a xxxx in the Mafia III DLC XXXX", while other pages simply use the standard "XXXX is a xxxx in Mafia III".

I'm of two opinions on this is. One is, if the character, location or item is only in a certain DLC, then it should be listed with the DLC in the opening line. Things added by updates and free downloadable content should use the standard Mafia III line.

However, without having access to a game without the DLCs installed, I don't know what shows up. For example, on a fully updated game, that doesn't have Faster, Baby! installed/paid for, would the Silenced MK 1020 still be in the weapons dealers inventory, and just unavailable? So another way to go would to just list everything with the standard Mafia III line and explain it in the article body instead.

Another thing is, on the Mafia II DLCs, we just used the opening line like "Going out of Business is a mission in Joe's Adventures." we didn't add the "Mafia II DLC" portion.

So lets kick around some ideas and opinions and come up with one standard way of doing this.

    • Actually, looking over the mission pages for faster and stones, we didn't add the "Mafia III DLC" onto those, it seems it's only characters and some locations. Achievements seem to have the "Mafia III DLC" added though, and we didn't add that in the Mafia II ones.

    • My initial opinion is, use the standard "XXXX is a xxxx in Mafia III" with the exception of missions and possibly achievements. The reason I think that is because those pages would likely be a little confusing if they didn't specify they were in a DLC versus part of the main game.

Most other pages, like locations, characters, weapons, vehicles, etc. usually list either appearances or availability somewhere in the article body.

Either way, I think we should drop the "in the Mafia III DLC" part on all pages and just list the DLC name.

    • Looking over the DLC character pages for Mafia II, it seems like most of them say "in the Mafia II DLC", and it looks like that was added when you changed all the character pages to a standard format. I guess we then just kept using that format for Mafia III DLC pages without giving it much thought.

I'm okay with changing all the mission and achievement pages to just list the DLC name, as the game name isn't really needed in the lead section since it's already listed in the infobox.

With the exception of Proximity Mines, I believe all the DLC weapons don't show up in the arms dealer if the DLC isn't installed.

Also, I've found that the Stones Unturned locations in New Bordeaux show up differently if the DLC isn't installed. All except Boicherot's appear as generic, unidentifiable buildings without the DLC installed, so we might want to consider listing those locations as being in Stones Unturned. What do you think?

Well, first off, how did you determine that? And are you meaning the DLC wasn't installed, or the update wasn't installed, or both? I recall after the Stones update came out, which was about a week early, Villa del Mar was mostly there, it was just missing the sign.

I seem to recall after the update for Faster came out, but before the DLC, the Silenced MK 1020 was in the Arms Dealer inventory, just unavailable.

My understanding is, when the DLC comes out, it's released to everyone as an update, or at least the bulk of the files are. The DLC itself and maybe a handful of files are then unlocked when the DLC is paid for.

Either way, this is exactly the kind of situation I was wanting to avoid, trying to figure out what is and isn't in the game with or without each DLC.

    • I figured that out by effectively uninstalling the DLC. Without the DLC Villa Del Mar is pretty much just a two-story version of the old building. It doesn't have any detail on the facade, and it can't be entered. I can get an image and add it to the page if you want.

I recall you saying that the Silenced MK 1020 was in the game files with the update, but it didn't unlock in the Arms Dealer until the DLC was installed. After I posted that yesterday I verified that this is indeed the case.

Most of the DLC files actually reside in a separate folder, and are only downloaded when the DLC is installed. However, a few of the DLC files, like subtitles and vehicles, are in the main folder, and are added with the update to the main game. This also seems to be the case with certain internal data.

Anyway, getting back to the main point, I think we should do all the Stones Unturned location pages the same way. Which one do you think is best? I'm okay with either way.

    • OK, I'm still unclear on some things.

      • Didn't unlock in the arms dealer, or didn't show up in his menu?

Most of the DLC files actually reside in a separate folder, and are only downloaded when the DLC is installed.

      • The update that came out prior to Faster was quite large, then when the DLC came out there was another, much smaller, update that downloaded. However, the update that came out prior to Stones was huge, but when the DLC was released there was just a small, almost nonexistant update. It seems to me that it was no more than a code to unlock it, it only took a few seconds to download/install. My assumption was that the update contained all the DLC files.

    • The Silenced MK 1020 doesn't show up in the Arms Dealer menu if Faster, Baby! isn't installed.

For me around 2 GB were downloaded when each DLC was released, I think Faster, Baby! was a little bit more than that and Stones Unturned was a little bit less. If you want to see for yourself you can uninstall them by unchecking the boxes for each one in the Downloadable Content section in Steam. This uninstalls them and deletes their files. When you recheck the box to install them they should download again.

    • Well lets skip what is and what isn't added to the base game for now. We have the following categories of things added by each DLC. Of these, which should mention the DLC name in the opening line, and which should just use the standard one and mention it in the article instead?

      • Missions
      • Achievements
      • Characters
      • Locations
      • Weapons
      • Vehicles

    • Well, it looks like we haven't made a final decision on this yet; however, we've been mentioning the DLC name in the opening line for missions, achievements, and characters, but not for locations, weapons, and vehicles. I'm thinking we should continue doing them like this. So the only question is, should we still remove the "in the Mafia III DLC" part for all the DLC missions, achievments, and characters, and just use the DLC name instead?

    • Works for me, remove the "in the Mafia III DLC" part and just list the dlc name.

As far as locations, we should add something to the page about it being added by the dlc though, even though some are added by the update proceeding the dlc. The appearance section lists mission names, but locations that were originally in the game can also appear in some dlc missions.

Something like "This location was added by Sign of the Times." placed to the top of the appearance section should be fine I think.

We also need to look over the Mafia I and II pages at the opening lines, we're all over the place on those as well.
