  • In addition to building a new vehicle infobox, it's starting to look like we may need new ones for other areas of Mafia III. The mission ones for example, I was thinking start and end could be just changed to location. It also does't look like previous and next are going to be applicable either.

The character ones seem a bit sparse, Mafia III looks to have named everyone, even very minor characters, I doubt we will get much of the information to add to them so maybe we could add in other info. Any ideas?

    • I saw something on another website that I thought might make an interesting addition to our character infoboxes, and that's listing the mission they're first introduced. Any thoughts on this?

        Loading editor
    • That might help people who aren't very familiar with a character see what part of the game it appears in more easily, otherwise they'd have to scroll down to the Mission Appearances section, but besides that I don't really see any other benefits.

    • I've seen that before and I agree. This information will help new users and everyone in general.

    • Here's some ideas I've had so far, feel free to comment on anything else you think would be a good addition to any infobox.

    • So here is what I have for the character infobox, if no one has any input I'll begin changing them when I have time.

      Adding in:

      • First mission appearance
      • Last mission appearance
      • Age

      Change:

      • Change occupation to position
      • Change appearance to game
      • Remove former faction

      Current

      {{Infobox character
      |name =
      |image =
      |full name =

      |occupation =
      |appearance =

    • I'm thinking the appearance fields should say "First appearance" and "Last appearance", at least when they display on the page, but other than that it looks good to me.

        Loading editor
    • We also need to make a clear decision on how we're going to capitalize infobox fields. For the first two games we only capitalize the first word of them, but apparently you started capitalizing all major words in a lot of them at some point in time, doing them the same way as page and section titles. I hadn't realized that until recently, so I was changing them occasionally, and now we have some one way and some the other way.

I'd suggest we stick with capitalizing only the first word, as I really don't see any reason to make them like any kind of title. They're also similar to gallery captions, where we capitalize only the first word.

    • Still waiting for a reply on this last issue.

As for the infoboxes, do you think the new one you listed above is good to go? If so I can change the infobox template to that and start replacing it on the character pages, but it may take me a few days to get them all done.

    • Well seeing as about 95% of what's added to infobox fields are links or proper nouns, which are capitalized anyway, it would seem the rest should follow suit. The only exception would maybe be with image captions on the ones that use them. There may possibly be others, without looking at all of them it's hard to say right now, I know the Mafia II vehicles use abbreviations like hp and mph, which would look odd capitalized.

Now, by removing former faction, it needs to be made clear what exactly should be listed in the faction field. I thought our policy was that former faction was only for characters who switched factions within the game itself, but looking over Mafia II characters that doesn't seem to be the case.

The reason we added that in the first place was to eliminate all the ones that were there with (formerly) listed beside them. Vito and Joe are really the only characters in all three games that changed factions in-game, the rest are all just pregame history.

I was also thinking about that former faction field, and I don't recall us having any such policy. I know there's a few Mafia III characters that have a former faction from before the game's events, like the Black Mob on Alcee Bennett's page.

So on pages like Vito and Joe do you think we should list multiple factions in the field like we did before, or just go with the most recent one?

        Loading editor
    • I'm probably thinking of something else then, this is why we need to assemble a page on all these things so we have one place to look. Anyway, I guess we could just leave former factions in them. Also, I'm not sure things like US Amy and Leo's Gang should really count as factions on Vito's Mafia II page.

By removing the occupation field from the character infobox there will be very few, if any, ones like this on character pages, so I guess it's not that urgent to settle this.

Let's just leave the former faction field in then. So here's the new infobox:

      {{Infobox character

      |image =

Well, the position field will be replacing occupation. The occupation field was originally added as a place to list non-mob type characters jobs, but over time many people have been adding mob related positions in there. I figured changing it to position would cover both uses.

    • I guess I misunderstood what you meant, I thought the position field would only be for mob positions.

    • Leaving the former faction field in should be fine, with the stipulation that what gets listed in either of those fields be those in the faction category. On that note, we may want to think about adding the police departments to that category.

    • Ok so, character infoboxes are settled and will be replaced with what's above shortly. Lets move on to vehicles.

My original intent was to make one to fit all three games, the problem with that is, if you have a field listed in an infobox, users have a bad habit of putting something in there whether it applies or not. So I think the best bet would be to stick with three separate infoboxes.

The problem with Mafia III is, they don't have a garage or carcyclopedia in-game. This was where the various stats on vehicles came from in past games. There really is nothing listed in the game about them other than their name. I was hoping that may change whenever they come out with the free update which is supposed to include vehicle customization and races. But judging from the clothing update I think it's going to be as bare minimum as that was. While they may give us some sort of customization and save options, I doubt it will include anything as detailed as things like horsepower, top speed, weight, etc.

So aside from what's listed in them now, I really have no idea what could be added. The Prima Game guide images have a chart below each vehicle that lists the class of each one along with weight and max speed, which is represented as 1-5 stars along with acceleration, which is on a scale of 0-3, but it's shown as a line, not numbers. They pretty much tell you what you can figure out on your own, the big vehicles are heavy and slow and the sports cars are light and fast. Without some kind of baseline the stats are as pointless as the percentages they list for weapons.

Anyway, the only thing I can think of adding to the Mafia III ones is maybe a field to list hardtop/convertible options and maybe class, like sports car, sedan etc. Any other ideas?

        Loading editor
    • We could also make a type field that covers both of those things, only problem is that might make the input a little long in some cases. I don't really have any other ideas at the moment, but maybe there'll be more stuff to add when that vehicle update comes out.

    • All the character infoboxes are done now.

    • We should decide on what will be put in the first/last appearance sections. For those who are only in one mission/chapter, it might look a little odd to list the same thing twice. We could just use those inputs for the ones who appear in more than one or come up with another solution.

Seeing as cutscenes usually come at the beginning or end of a mission, those should be counted with the mission they correspond to. Then there's Nino Santangelo, who can first appear in three different missions depending on how you proceed. I suppose we could list all three or just list something like Varied.

And are we going to count radio broadcasts as an appearance? If so how should we list those? I guess we could just list and link to the shows page, like Native Son.

    • You may want to double check, you seemed to have missed Perla Robinson.

Edit: Looks like you skipped the mentioned and dlc lists.

    • Is it also possible to have two image tabs for character infoboxes so that we can show characters from different timeframes? For instance, with the Leo Galante page, it's only showing him from 1968 but not from 1945 / 1951.

http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/Michael_De_Santa is an example of what I mean.

Unfortunately that would require rebuilding all the infoboxes as well as our wikis CSS code. It's just not worth the effort for the three characters who appear in multiple games.

Edit: Well, I guess Father James and Nicki Burke appear at different ages too, still not worth the effort.

    • It looks like we're still using the position field of character infoboxes for strictly legitimate jobs. The intent was to change it from occupation to position so both legitimate job titles as well as mob related titles could be used there. Has this just been overlooked or did we change our minds and I've just forgotten?

        Loading editor
    • After I changed the occupation field to position, I think the plan was to fill in the mob related titles later. I don't recall the subject being mentioned again after that, so I guess we just never got around to it.

        Loading editor
    • OK, I guess we should start adding them in. I'm thinking just keeping it simple, Boss, Capo, Lieutenant, Racket Boss, etc.
