Maria Agnello is the sister of a member of the Clemente crime family, as well as another sister who was treated at the Empire General Hospital in February 1945, and she works at the Office of Price Administration. She lives in an apartment situated in Little Italy.

• Given the heavy sentence Vito later faced for stealing stamps from the OPA, it is unknown why Maria was so willing to aid Vito as she could have faced a similar sentence herself for aiding and abetting. It could have been possible that she was too poor to afford her own car or to hire a taxi, and was willing to make payment in kind for Vito's ride to the hospital. Another possibility is that she was not a supporter of the New Deal or of wage and price controls, and thus considers Vito's actions just.
