The M1903 Springfield, formally the United States Rifle, Caliber 30.06, Model 1903, is an American Bolt-Action service 5-shot rifle used primarily during the first half of the 20th century. It was not always fed by 5 round stripper clips, in the early 20th century a single round had to be fed one by one into the internal magazine.
It was officially adopted as a United States military bolt-action rifle on June 21st, 1905, and saw service in World War I. It was officially replaced as the standard infantry rifle by the faster-firing, semi-automatic 8 round M1 Garand, starting in 1937. However, the M1903 Springfield remained in service as a bolt-action rifle and as a standard issue infantry rifle during World War II, since the U.S. entered the war without sufficient M1 rifles to arm all troops. It also remained in service solely as sniper rifle during the Korean War and even in the early stages of the Vietnam War. It remains popular as a civilian firearm, historical collector's piece, and as a military drill rifle.

Edit
The M1903 Springfield is seen in the missions The Whore by a police officer and again in You Lucky Bastard. In the mission You Lucky Bastard, it is very helpful to use in order to kill the guards in the crane towers (themselves armed with Mosin-Nagant M1891/30). It can also be found in Omerta where it is used by an FBI agent trying to shoot Tommy from a small tower behind the hangars. If player can shoot the agent he might drop it in a distance in which Tommy can reach it-otherwise the Springfield falls behind a fence where player can't reach it.
