Grand Prix is a game mode for Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven appearing exclusively in the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions. It features the ability to do street racing in various vehicles on the streets of Lost Heaven.

Description

The "Racing" mode or "Grand Prix" is a game mode appearing exclusively in the PlayStation 2 and Xbox version of Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, intended to compensate for the lack of Free Ride Extreme.

Within the game mode, you can choose between "Quick Race" and "Championship" .

Single Race

In Single Race Mode, you can choose several ways to configure the gameplay experience. The various ways are listed below:

Select circuit

You can choose between a total of 13 race circuits starting with the Hoboken circuit and unlocking the next in line as you progress.

Garage

Here you choose the vehicle that you wish to operate. The player can choose from only three vehicle brands at first, Bolt, Falconer and Thor.

Select Opponent

You can select the number of opponents to a maximum of five different opponents. These will be driving cars only within the current level range of the player.

Difficulty and Damage

You can choose four types of difficulties. They are as follows:

  • Beginner
  • Easy
  • Normal
  • Hard

There's also the option to activate or de-activate damage inflicted to your vehicle, much like the racing segment of Fairplay.

Race

In the race, you can choose between:

  • Practice, which is simply a training mode.
  • Pole Position, where you have to take two laps which will determine your starting position in the race.
  • Race, starts directly if you choose to occupy the last starting position.

Championship

In the Championship Mode, you can choose several ways to configure what type of car you will operate in the race but you need to do it all in a certain order, starting with "Design Classics" and continuing with "Sport", "Hot Rods" and ending with "Mixed Model".

In each session, you have to go through four rounds to advance to the next.

Select Circuit

You can choose between a total of 13 circuits starting with the Hoboken one and unlocking the others as you progress.

Garage

Here, you are able to choose your vehicle. The player can only choose one vehicle brand in the beginning, Thor.

Select Opponent

You can select the number of opponents to a maximum of five different opponents. These will be driving cars only within the current level range of the player.

Difficulty, damage and other options are the same for the Championship mode as for the regular mode.
