  • Subway - Subway cars were seen in early trailers and prerelease screenshots but unused in final game.

Characters[]

  • Monique - Monique was intended to be a character in Mafia II. Vito could have taken her to a theater, and she was likely supposed to be Vito's girlfriend.

Gameplay Features[]

  • Fight Club - During the early production phases, Vito could participate in fights to earn money and reputation, likely arranged by Leo Galante. Some of these were reworked into DLC missions.
  • Gun License - In the beta version of the game it was possible for Vito to obtain a gun license from Giuseppe; however, this feature was ultimately cut.
    • In Chapter 2 Joe still mentions that Giuseppe sells "phony gun permits".

  • Resisting Arrest - In the beta version of the game, resisting arrest would not cause officers in vicinity to engage in lethal force but foot chase.
    • The game was originally going to feature fat cops who would chase after the player on foot for minor offenses and then get tired and give up after a few blocks. For serious offenses, they would call in more nimble backup.
  • Shooting Range - Harry's Gun Shop was originally supposed to have a shooting range.
  • Side Missions - Originally the game featured side jobs through Derek Pappalardo, but this was cut.

Safehouses[]

Story[]

  • A Friend of Ours - During the early production phases of Mafia II, Vito had the option to accept the assassination contract on Leo Galante with Henry during Chapter Eleven.
  • Some chapters were originally going to feature multiple approaches, like taking a more stealthy approach in Room Service and avoiding the rooftop firefight.
  • A number of side missions, jobs, and encounters were also cut.
  • Under the original script of Mafia II, Henry Tomasino was framed to be a government informant and the game was set to have 3 alternative endings, a rework of the script replaced these with 4 different alternative endings, though three of these were cut in favor of the ending that was given in the final product. A shootout at the Vinci Mansion (changed to Judge Hillwood mansion) appears in Jimmy's Vendetta and most likely used some assets from one of the cut endings.
