In Mafia II, the player can listen to different radio stations while in the car, at a safehouse (if it has a radio), or at a certain establishment. The music will change from the 1940s to 1950s as the era changes.

Songs played on the radio stations vary. Some are performed by The Andrews Sisters and various other bands and solo singers.

Sometimes, some songs are scripted to play at their respective radio stations during at some point in a chapter. These songs are somewhat related to the current "mood" of the chapter. An example of this is in the Chapter The Buzzsaw, while delivering the MG42 to Henry and Joe, Fat Man by "Fats" Domino will play at Delta Radio. Another example is when after Joe gave Vito the keys to Marty's Apartment during Chapter 11, Rags to Riches by Jackie Wilson will play at Delta radio while Vito drives there. In the mission Stairway to Heaven, after killing Tommy Angelo, the radio will talk about the shootout in the Red Dragon and the song "Ling Ting Tong" by The Five Keys will play.
