Aircraft are vehicles seen in the Mafia Series.
History
Aircraft are fixed or rotary wing vehicles capable of self-sustaining flight, typically powered by either a rotary or jet engine. They appear in Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, Mafia II, and Mafia III. They are inoperable by the player and appear as scripted events or static displays.
Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven
- They first appear in Omerta at the Lost Heaven International Airport where they can be seen in hangars, on runways, and in the air.
- Their second appearance is in Crème De La Crème where Tommy Angelo, Sam, and Paulie shoot down Don Morello's airplane as it attempts to take off and escape Lost Heaven.
Mafia II
- In Mafia II they first appear in Home Sweet Home where a large formation of USAAF B-17 aircraft can be seen flying over Empire Bay as Joe Barbaro takes Vito Scaletta to Freddy's Bar in Little Italy.
- Later as Vito makes his way home after being dropped off by a taxi, two B-17 Flying Fortresses can be seen flying above.
- For the remainder of the game airplanes can be seen flying high above Empire Bay either alone or in formations of three.
Mafia III
- Airplanes appear in Mafia III as scripted events in the missions Are We Cool and Hot Rubber & Cold Blood, both involving air drops.
- They can also be seen parked on the tarmac of Marais Airport and the unnamed airport seen in North Lake.
- A crashed cargo plane is featured in Stones Unturned, which Lincoln Clay and John Donovan visit while tracking down The Nuke.
- After Lincoln and Donovan retrieve the nuke on the Unknown Island, it is airlifted away using a Military helicopter.
Trivia
- In the 1940s era of Mafia II, radio announcer Lowell Harris of Press Radio News makes a reference to the World War II British fighter aircraft The Spitfire.
